SCCTC/DOCTC Agility 1/10-12/14

Swagger went to a three day agility trial in January and managed to snag the 2nd and 3rd legs he needed for his Open Standard Title!  Big shout out to Linda Porter to handling him to these wins – with a first and a second place.

New HTs

Both Spike and Scarlett got their finished their HTs in 2013.  For Spike, this also gives him is BCCA Versatility title.

Scarlett tried really hard to make it interesting and difficult at the Blue Ridge Herding Dog Club’s trial, but she finally did her stop and her recall

So proud of these two! On to PT!

BRDTC Rally Trial 11/15-16

A NEW Rally Advanced (RA) for Einstein & a NEW Rally Novice (RN) for Scarlett

Image 4Add Media Image

Both Scarlett and Einstein competed in rally at the Bouvier club’s trial on 11/9 and got legs towards their titles (leg 1 for E and leg 2 for Scarlett).  So, we ventured out to the BRDTC trial in Winchester, VA on 11/15-16.  it was so nice having a Friday afternoon and Saturday morning trial.  On Saturday, Einstein scored a perfect 100 in Rally Advanced, a feat I never thought possible given his propensity for barking in the ring, and Scarlett scored a 96 for her Rally Novice title.  The club offered big, nice ribbons and awards for 1st place that were well beyond our expectations. Then on Saturday morning, Scarlett added a 95 point bumper leg in Novice and Einstein completed his RA title with a 96.  So proud of both these pups!  We’ll definitely do this trial again! Can’t recommend this show site enough for obedience and rally.  Very quiet and set up for success – although, if the kids are playing soccer in the room next door there can be a bit of noise.

Richmond 2013

The first year of the Richmond cluster, 8 days of dog shows in 10 days in June at the Richmond International Raceway.  What a great show!  Scarlett’s first real shows and she got a point and a major under judges Jimmy Moses and Catherine Cargo.  Spike won the breed under Carmen Battaglia.  Getcha finished her Grand Championship under judge Catherine Cargo. And Diesel competed in both Rally Advanced and Beginner Novice Obedience and was a perfect 4 for 4.

Garden State Specialty

We attended the Garden State Bearded Collie Clan’s regional specialty show in September 2013.  By far our favorite specialty during the year, we try never to miss it.  This year’s judges were Sweeps: Amy Penuel and Regular: Wendy Smith.  There was also a supported entry show with Sweeps on Sunday. Ace, Moonstone Out of My Way, was Best in Sweeps on Saturday and Best of Opposite in Sweeps on Sunday.  Heart was Best in Veteran Sweeps on Sunday after not showing on Saturday. Spike made the cut in the breed on Saturday at the specialty and Scarlett was 3rd in her class.

2013 BCCA National Specialty

September 29-October 4, 2013

Photos by PupArt, Cathryn Hoare, and Dina Delsman

The Moonstone dogs had a great time at the BCCA National Specialty show at Purina Farms in Gray Summit, MO.  There were many highlights including an Award of Merit for Heart, Diesel got his Beginner Novice and Rally Advanced titles, Swagger qualified in 2 our of 3 of his agility runs, and Scarlett placed 3rd in both of her classes and qualified in Rally Novice (her first time in the ring:D)

We started the week with Spike and Scarlett competing at the HT level in the herding trials.  Unfortunately the sheep weren’t of a mind to cooperate with either of them.  While Spike was close neither qualified in the event.  In fact, there were no sheep qualifiers on the first day of competition at any level test or trial, but there were a few in the trial the following day.

On Monday, we did Agility in the Purina center.  Good runs were had by all, but Swagger was the big winner, qualifying in 2 of his 3 runs

Tuesday saw Rally, Obedience, and sweeps.  We started off the morning bright and early with a Q for Scarlett!  Diesel followed that with a Q and his title in Rally advanced, despite barking his way around the course.  The judge was very generous and I was very surprised.  He never barks in rally or obedience, except going over the jump. Einstein wasn’t so lucky in his advanced run.  He was very distracted by all the other beardies outside the ring… we’ll give it a try at an all-breed show, I think.  Diesel followed up his new RA title by also qualifying in Beginner Novice Obedience and acquiring his BN.  In Sweepstakes, Ace and Denton showed in 6-9 month dog, Lily showed in 6-9 bitch, and  Scarlett showed in a big 9-12 bitch class and placed 3rd.  It was a long wait for the girl as she was the last puppy into the ring for her class.  Diesel showed in 7-10 dog and Heart won her 12-14 Veteran bitch class.

Wednesday is dog day with both Ace and Denton in 6-9 dog.  Despite being very naughty both boys made the cut in this large class and Ace ended up taking 3rd.  Then, Diesel showed in 7-10 veteran dog

Thursday is bitch day with Lily in 6-9 bitch, Scarlett taking 3rd in 9-12 bitch, and Heart winning her 12-14 veteran bitch class.  We also showed Getcha in Brood Bitch with the terrible two boys 😀 There wasn’t significant improvement by their third day of showing, but these boys sure are fun.  Getcha was 3rd in brood bitch

Friday is breed day and Heart also got to show again having won her Veteran bitch class.  Swagger and Spike both showed, and Kylee made the first bitch cut.  Finally, it was time for Heart to go back in.  A long day, 3 days of showing and agility on Monday, and the girl was still ready to go. She ended up making all the final cuts and walking away as one of 10 Awards of Merit.  Very grateful for this honor for our special girl.  It was definitely a good way to end a fabulous week, making this the best.national.ever.

The Moonstone gang recently showed at the Middleburg Kennel Club Dog Show held at Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg, VA.  It’s one of our favorite show sites, despite that the weather is often unpredictable, from Snow that canceled the show one year, to rain, to muddy conditions that suck the shoes right off your feet.  This year, we were blessed with beautiful, if a bit cold and windy,  weather and happy times with good friends who made the trip from Ohio, North Carolina, Maine, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.  On Satursday under Judge Brian Meyer, Scarlett was RWB to major and Swagger was Best of Opposite for a Grand Championship Major award.  On Sunday, Ace was RWD to major and Swagger was Select Dog for another Gr Ch major.  Thanks to Amy Alspaugh Penuel for handling Swagger to these awards.

Fortunately, Key4Prints has enjoyed spending time outside the beardie ring of late, and was on hand to snap these ringside candids.
